Today I want to show you how to install Fulltextsearch with OCR in Nextcloud 13 or 14 with Elasticsearch and Tesseract OCR. This guide also works with Plesk Onyx.<\/p>\n

Prerequisites: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

– an Ubuntu VPS with running Nextcloud-Instance
\n– root-access<\/p>\n

the following Apps must be installed and activated in Nextcloud:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

– Full text search – Bookmarks (BETA)
\n– Full text search – Elasticsearch Platform (BETA)
\n– Full text search – Files – Tesseract OCR (BETA)
\n– Full text search – Files (BETA)
\n– Full text search (BETA)<\/p>\n

Step 1: Install Elasticsearch<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

We have to install Java:<\/p>\n

sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jre<\/pre>\n
and we add the elasticsearch repository:<\/p>\n
sudo apt install apt-transport-https\r\nwget -qO - https:\/\/artifacts.elastic.co\/GPG-KEY-elasticsearch | sudo apt-key add -\r\necho \"deb https:\/\/artifacts.elastic.co\/packages\/6.x\/apt stable main\" | sudo tee -a \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/elasticsearch.list\r\nsudo apt update<\/pre>\n
now we can install elasticsearch:<\/p>\n
sudo apt install elasticsearch<\/pre>\n
for security reasons, we bind elasticsearch to 127.0.0.1;<\/p>\n
sudo nano \/etc\/elasticsearch\/elasticsearch.yml<\/pre>\n
add or adjust the following line:<\/p>\n
network.host: 127.0.0.1<\/pre>\n
and enable the service:<\/p>\n
sudo systemctl daemon-reload && sudo systemctl enable elasticsearch && sudo systemctl start elasticsearch<\/pre>\n
check if elasticsearch is running:<\/p>\n
curl -XGET '127.0.0.1:9200\/?pretty'<\/pre>\n
and install the „ingest-attachment“-Plugin (required for PDF, PPT, XLS etc.)<\/p>\n
sudo \/usr\/share\/elasticsearch\/bin\/elasticsearch-plugin install ingest-attachment<\/pre>\n
now restart elasticsearch and we are ready with this step:<\/p>\n
sudo systemctl restart elasticsearch<\/pre>\n

Step 2: Install Tesseract OCR<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n
we can install Tesseract OCR with the following command:<\/p>\n
sudo apt install tesseract-ocr<\/pre>\n
now we have to install additional languages (in this example English, German and French):<\/p>\n
sudo apt install tesseract-ocr-eng tesseract-ocr-deu tesseract-ocr-fra<\/pre>\n
if you want install all languages, the following command is with you:<\/p>\n
sudo apt install tesseract-ocr-all<\/pre>\n

Step 3: Configure Nextcloud<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n
Under „Administration -> Full text search“ we adjust the following settings:<\/p>\n

  Step 4: Create index<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n
to create the index we have to run the following command in our nextcloud-directory:<\/p>\n
sudo -u www-data php .\/occ fulltextsearch:index<\/pre>\n
the first run will take some time, but if finished you can fulltextsearching…<\/p>\n
